What does a millionaire look like?

Last weekend I attended the WorldVenture’s Millionaire Bootcamp in Las Vegas. It was a powerful weekend of high energy, high positivity and high caliber training. After the weekend wrapped up, myself and a friend stopped to grab a pizza to bring back to our condo. We lounged around outside waiting for the pizza and were buzzing with energy and talking excitedly about all that we learned over the weekend.

That’s when the pizza shop owner strolls out and takes a seat (hey.. shouldn’t you be making our pizza?). We were dressed in camoflage t-shirts and khaki pants and still had our event badges on and so the guy asks us what we are in town for. We mention that we just attended the Millionaire Bootcamp and this guy says ‘You don’t look like millionaires.’ What the? How does this guy know what a millionaire looks like. So I ask him.. ‘What does a millionaire look like?’

He says ‘They don’t wear t-shirts like that and walk around with badges around their neck.’ Hmm. Really? The guy goes on the spew a litany of other negative crap, so me and my friend just ignore him and get back to our conversation. There’s no way this guy is going to bring me down. Besides, what does he know? He’s running a shoebox of a pizza joint in an area that’s well off the Vegas strip. He’s not exactly a King Pin of the restaurant industry.

But his comment did get me to thinking. What DOES a millionaire look like? It used to be that we associated success with people who owned a big business, wore conservative suits and sat around at board meetings all day. They had loads of employees, management issues, tons of capital tied up in leases and equipment and rarely saw their family because they were at work 80 hours a week.

Times sure have changed haven’t they? Now a days it is much MORE LIKELY that a millionaire (or millionaire to be) is working from home, commanding several businesses at once, without employees, leases or equipment.. other than a laptop and cell phone. They have time for family, in fact family time is a priority. They control their day and when and how they work, whether from the poolside in their backyard or a coffee shop down the street. They don’t always flash the cash, but you know they are making bank. And many have traded in the business suit for shorts and flipflops.

For many people, there has been a huge and gradual shift in priorities. The current economy and readily available technology has made it possible.. and in fact necessary.. to strike out on your own.. to find a passion and work it. And to be able to do so and still have a life and lifestyle. That is what the NEW MILLIONAIRE looks like. Relaxed. In control. Pursuing his or her passion and loving life. Cool.
